The symptoms

Silent automations fail on their own schedule.

An automation never announces when it stops. It just skips the 3am run, and you find out a week later when the CRM is missing records and the person who built the flow has already left.

Failing silently at 3am

A workflow throws on a rate-limited API call, n8n marks the execution failed, and nothing pages anyone. No retry, no error branch, no alert. You find out days later when a downstream report comes back with a hole in it.

Per-task pricing at volume

Zapier and Make bill per task or per operation. One sync loop firing 40,000 times a month turns a €20 idea into a four-figure invoice, and the cost scales with success, not value. Self-hosted n8n runs the same volume on a fixed server bill.

No version control, no owner

The flow lives in one person's account with no Git history, no diff, no rollback. Someone edits a node live in production, breaks the JSON mapping, and there is no previous version to restore and no record of what changed.

1. Audit & map

We inventory every workflow, trace what each one touches, and catalogue the credentials, triggers, and failure points. You get a map of what is running, what is fragile, and what is silently broken before we change a single line.

2. Rebuild & harden

Each flow is rebuilt self-hosted with retries, error branches, and a dead-letter queue, then committed to Git so every change is diffable and reversible. Alerting wires into Slack or your on-call, so a failed run reaches a human in under a minute.

3. Document & hand over

You get the ownership map, the runbook, and a named owner per workflow, with the whole stack running in your own infrastructure. Handover is monitored: we watch the first weeks live before it is fully yours, not thrown over the wall.

Hardened self-hosted workflows

Every workflow rebuilt on your own n8n instance with retries, exponential backoff, error branches, and a dead-letter queue for runs that still fail. No per-task bill, no vendor throttle, full control of the runtime.

Version-controlled definitions

Workflow JSON committed to Git, so every change is diffable, reviewable, and reversible. A bad edit rolls back to the last good commit in seconds instead of being reconstructed from memory.

An ownership map

One page per workflow: the named owner, the systems it reads and writes, its trigger and schedule, and the exact recovery steps when a run fails. The bus factor stops being one, so the person who built it leaving no longer takes the automation's only documentation with them.

Monitoring & alerting

Before you book

The questions we get asked.

What access do you need?

Admin on your n8n instance, or a fresh server we stand up inside your infrastructure. Read access to the systems each workflow touches (CRM, database, APIs) and the credentials or service accounts those flows authenticate with. Everything runs in your accounts, and we never hold your production secrets after handover.

How long until the flows are live?

The audit and mapping take the first week. Simple workflows are rebuilt, hardened, and version-controlled by week two; a large or tangled set runs to three or four. We migrate flow by flow so nothing goes dark during the switch, then monitor the first live weeks before full handover.

Who pays for hosting and licenses?

You do, in your own accounts. n8n's community edition is open-source and free to self-host, so you cover the server (a small VPS handles most workloads) and any paid connectors or the Enterprise licence if you need SSO and RBAC. We advise on sizing and mix; the run-rate is a fixed server bill, not a per-task meter.

Isn't self-hosting a maintenance burden?

It is a server running a Docker container, not a datacentre. We ship it with automated backups, container health checks, and version-pinned upgrades documented in the runbook, so an update is a reviewed step rather than a surprise. For teams that would rather not touch infrastructure at all, we run it on n8n Cloud instead and keep the same retries, Git workflow, and alerting.

Can you migrate our existing Zapier or Make automations?

Yes, and we rebuild them natively in n8n rather than importing blindly, because a one-to-one copy carries over the same fragile design. You get the same outcomes with proper error handling and no per-task meter. Where n8n's native nodes fall short, we write custom code steps so the logic is not compromised to fit the tool.

What happens after handover?

Your team owns the instance, the Git repo, the ownership map, and the runbook. Nothing depends on us to keep running. Some clients keep a light monitoring retainer for new workflows and version upgrades, but the whole point of the version control and alerting is that you can run it without us.
